The Sonoran Center for Leadership Development offers leadership development workshops and institutes based on our five values of Service, Social Justice, Experiential Education, Sustainability, and Personal Development. While offering these programs to the community, we will also raise funds to open a secular community retreat center in southern Arizona that is focused on developing the leadership capacities of all people adding classes, retreats, use of the challenge course, and excursions to the workshops and institutes currently offered.
What is Leadership Development?
Great question! There are many ways to conceptualize leadership, so there are many ways to engage in leadership development. The Sonoran Center for Leadership Development recognizes that while part of leadership is positional, it is much broader and encompasses much more. Leadership is a way of life; it is a combination of competencies (knowledge, skills, and behaviors) that allow the individual to make the world a better place.
From this perspective, leaders are CEOs, managers, and politicians, but they are also the people that serve on the PTA, volunteer in the community, hold the door open for someone with a package, and help their neighbors put on a block party. Therefore, the programs of the Sonoran Center for Leadership Development are designed to enhance the competencies that enable people to act as leaders in any context.
